I’ve noticed that your commentary, analyses, and investments are limited to U.S.-based equities. Would appreciate your comments and rationale regarding whether you would consider any investments in international equities.

      Hi Jeff,

I was buying shares in some European companies (ADRs) in the Gecko Folio, our high yield fund, a month or two ago. Some good, high dividend paying companies became attractive all of a sudden in the middle of that Greece crisis. Hope to put out more details about all of them over time. NGG was one, for instance.

Otherwise, rarely look overseas for capital appreciation-related reasons. Probably a good blog post in there, but in general, don’t feel I need to. Part of that is a function of familiarity (GAAP and otherwise), and part a function of fund size. Once we get to be a $10B fund, then probably forced to expand that search area to include international equities more regularly. So, you know, could be a week or two. I will say I spent enough time looking at Chinese companies in the past that I would be hesitant to do anything there. That, too, is probably a whole ‘nother blog post.

But yeah, that Gecko thing above was strictly opportunistic. Some good deals available in all that fear.
